Sound systems are incomplete without subwoofers. In addition to reproducing the lower frequency ranges that give our favorite sounds their earth-shaking quality, they help to create a more immersive, more full sound experience for audiophiles.
Over time, subwoofers can accumulate dust and even accumulate stains, which can affect their aesthetic appeal. Here’s how you can keep your subwoofer giving the best bass performance at all times by cleaning and maintaining it safely.
How to Clean A Subwoofer?
First of all let me clear you the tools and resource that we need while cleaning our subwoofers so make sure you have all the tools mentioned below:
- Cotton fabric made from microfiber that is lint-free
- Brushes that are soft
- Suction pipe vacuum cleaner
Firstly, we will apply a lint-free fabric to the upper surface of the subwoofer in a circular motion, just as we would apply powder to our face.
As soon as the dust was removed from the surface, we used a screwdriver to remove the subwoofer’s grill. Using a soft cloth, gently wipe the dirt off the subwoofer cap. Any type of subwoofer can be cleaned in this way. Here, it is important to mention that dust particles can be removed with a wet brush.
The interior of the subwoofer must be cleaned of dust. All the dirt and debris that are attached to the inner surface will be sucked up by this machine. For best results, use it for five minutes on each subwoofer. Overusing it can quickly cause it to overheat, so do not use it for more than 5 minutes.
Be gentle when cleaning the subwoofer; avoid rubbing the surface and cones too hard. Always take your time with this task.
Clean subwoofer grills
Clean the subwoofer grill by carefully removing the parts of the subwoofer and following the instructions in the manual. After this procedure, you’ll need to fix the grill, so keep the nuts and bolts in a safe place.
It is not recommended to use a water-based cleaner on a subwoofer grill that has a metallic base since it can damage the structure. To prevent corrosion, always dry the metallic part if liquid is present.
You should be careful if your subwoofer’s grill has a fabric base, since it can ruin your subwoofer. Always use a duster or brush on the grill and never force it or hold it with tools. Afterwards, fix the subwoofer back into the grill and secure it with the bolts. It doesn’t matter what kind of wireless subwoofer you have it can be connected to any soundbar.
The subwoofers can be damaged if fellows don’t know this, which I have seen. If you follow this guide step by step, everything should be fine.
Cleaning the subwoofer exterior
When cleaning the outer surfaces of the subwoofer, use only dry cloths. You may not be able to remove stubborn dust with dry cloths; in that case, you can use a wet cloth. Be careful when using a wet cloth to avoid damaging the wires and cables.
It is advisable to use an ammonia-free cleaner to keep the subwoofer surface dry. The wet cloth can damage the subwoofer, so it is much better to use this method.
Cleaning the Speaker Cones
Generally, cones are made of paper. Be sure to check the cone carefully. Cones are the subwoofer’s core component. They can’t be replaced once they’ve spoiled. Cones must be brushed gently to remove dust.
Subwoofer cones should never be cleaned with a dry cloth, always use a liquid. I think it is important to mention that whatever solution is used, it should be considered a limit.
Use a small brush to apply the liquid. Remove the dust with the brush and allow the liquid to dry. It is not advisable to spray water directly on the cones, as it can damage them. For cleaning the cones, you can also use this cleaning spray.
By gently rubbing the cones with fine abrasive paper, the surface of the speaker cones can be cleaned. While cleaning the cones, I’ve seen many people damage them. Don’t rush in cleaning. Be patient.
Using a cleaner is another option. It needs to be placed over the cones and allowed to clean for three to five minutes.
